The European Union is coming up with a set of new and tough privacy rules to safeguard Internet users’ personal data over the Web. In the new amendments to the law on data protection, a particular attention is paid to companies that have suffered from software crack and data theft. According to the draft amendments, in such cases they will be obliged to notify authorities and interested parties during the day after the ‘leak’ of information. Besides, users will be able to require companies to completely delete their data, as well as easy to transfer personal information from one organization to another. Companies who violate the new law on data protection will be imposed a penalty of 1 percent of their total revenue. It is planned to announce on new rules of data protection on January 25. As expected, the changes in the EU legislation will have far-reaching impact on Facebook, Google, social networkings, cloud services, electronic billing systems and other online services.
