Scientists at the University of Glasgow are helping bring the era of “Internet of things” by developing a new type of search engine, which will collect data from sensors located in the physical world to provide completely new answers to such queries. By collecting data coming from sensors such as cameras and microphones, and cross-referencing them with results from social networks and global networks, users will be able to receive detailed answers to questions (such as “How busy is the city center” or “What part of the city hosts events”). The launch of the project is scheduled for 2014.
