Net profit of South Korean manufacturer Samsung Electronics in the second quarter of 2012 rose 48 per cent to a record $ 4.5 billion compared to a year earlier. Net profit grew by 3 per cent in comparison with the current quarter of the year, and its operating profit for the second quarter of 2012 amounted to $5.9 billion. During the period from April to June of 2012, Samsung’s mobile business contributed 63 per cent of Samsung’s entire operating profit. Analysts guess Samsung sold around 50 million smartphones in the second quarter, including about 6.5 million Galaxy S3 phones. The company’s revenue was roughly $41.5 billion.
