Analyst firm Netcraft has published a report on the number of web sites operating in the Internet. According to the company, 628, 170, 204 sites operated on the network as of August 1 of current year, which is 38 million less than a month earlier. The company said that a significant negative trend is associated with the fact that Netcraft has specified criteria for accounting web sites. Furthermore, about 40 million hostnames have been removed from the survey, located on only 242 IP addresses. This has had a negative effect on the number of hostnames running on Web server Apache, with 36 million hostnames lost, taking its market share down to 59%.
