Google has surpassed the market capitalisation of Microsoft for the first time, and now Google now becomes the second-most valuable tech company in the world, just behind leader Apple, which also holds the title of world’s most valuable company. While Analytics commenting on the growth of shares of Google, said that the rising cost of Internet Company is a sign of the general trend of the connectedness of modern society and the transfer of a growing part of the business activity to the Internet. A slight bump in Google shares on Monday meant the company was valued at $249.9 billion, while a dip in Microsoft stock gave the PC software maker a market capitalisation of $247.2 billion. It was one more sign that the technology industry has entered what some call a post-PC era. Investors are becoming more bullish on the growth opportunities ahead for Google, a company whose fortunes are predicated on the Internet and, increasingly, on mobile devices and services. “The PC hardware business is obviously struggling,” said Martin Pyykkonen, Colorado-based analyst at Wedge Partners Corp. “The transition here is pretty straightforward in terms of where things have moved to and certainly that’s cloud, that’s Web.” It also reflects the ascension of the Internet as the delivery channel for more of the software and computing tasks that were once left to the Microsoft-dominated PC industry.
