The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially banned the service Skype, which allows users to make free audio and video calls via the internet, Al Arabiya TV channel reports. According to the channel, neither of the country’s service providers had submitted a request to the authority to lift the ban. “Skype is blocked and will remain so, until the provider obtains an official license from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority,” Al Arabiya reported. The channel says that in 2010, the UAE authority announced that operators could offer their services without submitting requests.
