E Ink Corp. has demonstrated electronic paper displays that can display three colors. In addition to traditional black and white display, it is able to show red (it is possible to change to another color). The display was developed on technology called Spectra. Like displays of reading devices, the screen includes a liquid-filled microcapsules, but they are placed pigments of three colors. The disadvantage of the Spectra screen is that it is not capable of displaying colors - for example, gray or pink. For comparison, other displays like Pearl E Ink screen is used in reader Kindle displays 16 shades of gray. The developers propose to use the Spectra screens in retail outlets to display the names of the goods and their prices. The data on screens can be updated from operator’s console. The advantage of the display is the ability to operate at low temperatures, so they can be installed inside of refrigerators. The Spectra technology is expected to be available in Q3 of this year.
